It seems as though many people attend church/temple/etc...,
to show their face to surrounding peers rather than for the religion itself.
Although this can not be generalized to everyone in specifics,
religion today has become a key target in comedy.
(Because in reality it always seems fun to make cracks at another's religion!)
Where as many have died for their lives before religion was based on selfchoice.
(Being as American's we are privileged to choose our religion without fear.)
Yet this is not the case for many countries out there that have a forced beliefsystem.
Religion is a freedom/right we overlook. It has simply become the cool thing todo.
Personally I am not very religious, but it seems as though church groups showoff.
Who has the nicer church, how closely they are "bonded" (The overall facade.)
Because if you think about it, you do not have to show it in "bling" to believeit.
I know this very well for my grandmother who is a devout Catholic portrays this.
She does not attend church due to age and the gossip that occurs when there.
She feels that although it is not a holy ground. She knows she believes,
and she does not need confirmation by wearing religious clothing/accessories.

> today i was walking to one of my classes at school and saw a girl walking with
a hat that had the word faith bejeweled on the front of it. i thought it was the
perfect example of religion and spirituality in the west and what our society
has turned it into (i cant speak for other societies, but i might know a little
something about american society seeing as ive lived in it haha????). It seems
that religion has become more for show than a means of soul saving or heaven
reaching. we tend to follow fads of religions, we see what deity celebrities are
into for the week then we decide we have been searching for that religion our
whole lives; madonna and britney spears with Kaballah, tom cruise and
Scientology, mel gibson and Catholicism (if anything that hurt the image of
catholicism, as if it needed to be brought down anymore, and for the record were
not all jew bashing drunks like him, though they did kill the savior of mankind,
we forgave em) anyways, i thought that was a funny sight to see.
